N-P girls make progress despite three more losses

Lead Summary

In a year where wins have been hard to come by, Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball coach Josh Smith continues to find positives.  And despite losing three games — 46-31 to North Butler, 73-43 to MFL-Mar-Mac and 47-34 to St. Ansgar — he believes his Huskies are heading in the right direction. In two of those recent three games, the Huskies were in striking distance heading into halftime only to fall flat in the second half.  In the North Butler game, for example, Nashua-Plainfield trailed just 18-16 at halftime only to see the Bearcats use a 24-9 third quarter to break the game wide open.  And on Monday night in St. Ansgar, the Huskies trailed just 20-16 at halftime, but the Saints outscored Nashua-Plainfield 27-18 in the final 16 minutes of the game.  Against North Butler, Sierra Fisher led the way with 15 points while Abby Lumley had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.Fisher would go on to score 17 points against St. Ansgar.  The rest of the story may be found in the Feb. 9 Reporter.
