N-P girls claim another crown

     Aubrey Eick and Faith Carpenter almost answered in perfect unison when they were asked what they preferred — long-distance runs or “track workouts” — when it comes to cross country practice?     “Long runs,” they said as they both laughed.     Yet they know those track workouts have been invaluable to what is becoming a dream season for the Nashua-Plainfield girls cross country team.     “The track workouts aren’t always a lot of fun,” Carpenter said, “but they’ve definitely helped us with our speed. Anytime you hear the word ‘repeat’ in a workout, you know it’s going to be tough, but it’s definitely helping us.”     The latest proof came last Thursday as the Huskies won their second straight team title with an impressive victory at the Hampton-Dumont Invitational.     Nashua-Plainfield tallied 38 points to easily beat runner-up Sumner-Fredericksburg by 29 points, and the Huskies ran with a “pack mentality, too.”     Eick took third, Carpenter and senior Emma Sinnwell finished 5-6, Senior Kylie Laube was ninth and another senior, Kaylee Cerwinske, took 15th.     “I don’t know if I quite expected this,” Eick said of what is turning into a brilliant freshman season, “but once I got out and ran, I’ve been getting more and more confident.”
