N-P boys pick up signature victory

Levi Miller isn’t going to lie, he was a bundle of nerves as his Nashua-Plainfield baseball team clung to a 4-3 lead last Wednesday against Forest City.
“I’d like to say I was calm and collected,” he said, “but that wouldn’t exactly be the truth. OK, that wouldn’t even be close to the truth.”
But his Huskies hung on to record one of the school’s biggest baseball wins in recent years.
“They won the West Division last year and they’re one of the biggest 2A schools in the state,” Miller said, “so it’s definitely a signature win for our guys.”
The Huskies followed up the Top of Iowa win with an 11-0 thrashing of Janesville on Thursday, but then their bats went quiet in a 4-0 loss to Belmond-Klemme Friday and a 3-0 loss to Osage on Monday.
“It’s been a little frustrating because we show glimpses, we show how good we can be but we can’t find that consistency,” said Miller, whose team took a 5-11 overall record and 5-7 Top of Iowa mark into Tuesday’s game at Central Springs. “We have to trust the process, but we also have to have better approaches at the plate. It’s almost like we’re waiting for someone else to do something, if that makes any sense.”
