McDonald loves ‘changed’ life

When the Houston Astros selected Iowa star pitcher and former New Hampton native Cole McDonald in the 15th round of the MLB Draft, it didn’t hit him that his life was going to completely change.
“I got the call saying they had drafted me on Wednesday (June 5). I got another call after that saying they were going to fly me out to Florida,” McDonald said. “It wasn’t until I got to Florida when I realized how different of a lifestyle it was.”
McDonald would make his first appearance as a member of the Astros organization in Florida, playing in the Gulf Coast League (GCL).
