Huskies seek consistency as girls postseason starts

Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball coach was asked in an email about his team’s practice schedule the past couple of weeks because of the winter weather and array of makeup games.
His response: “It. Has. Been. A. Struggle.”
The Huskies lost four days of school last week to the weather and then played three games in four days — Sunday being a rest day — and Smith said between snow, cold, games and fog, he’s spent very little time on the practice floor with his team.
“It’s been tough,” he said. “Trying to figure out where we can move games to and what dates we have open and what dates our opponent has open and everything else that comes with rescheduling contests has been tough and that’s just from the AD side of it. While wearing that hat it’s all about giving our kids opportunities to compete. We’re fortunate that from the high school side we’ve only lost one basketball game for the boys and girls and one wrestling meet.”
And what Smith wants to see most from his team — consistency — is hard to gain with so little practice time, but as Nashua-Plainfield begins the playoffs tonight with a Class 1A regional game at North Butler, finding “steadier” play is the goal for the Huskies.
