Humidity slows runners at West Delaware
It was a soggy afternoon as New Hampton’s cross country runners made a trek to West Delaware Tuesday. Not because of the rain — that held off until the ride back to New Hampton. But while the runners were competing, they became soggy because of the humidity. “It was extremely humid,” said coach Jamie Ohrt. “Fortunately we were able to squeeze all the races in before the storm hit.” It was another very large meet, with 18 complete teams from 21 schools in the varsity girls race, where the Chickasaws were 12th. The boys standings had 19 complete teams with the Chickasaws 16th. Olivia Burke has been very consistent this season. She ran in the lower 22 range in all but two meets, when she dipped once to a 21:52 and once into the 23s. Tuesday the Chickasaw junior put up a 22:18 to come in 28th of 120 runners. Lydia Gessner was 42nd in 22:46, Sadie Tenge 61st in 23:23 and Hannah Heit 85th in 24:38.
