Dr. John Epperly’s advice to area residents is simple: Respect the heat and stay hydrated.Because folks, it’s downright miserable out there as the area will remain under an excessive heat advisory through 7 p.m. today [Friday].“When it's hot, when it's humid, your body loses so much water,” said Epperly, “You should hydrate with water or sports drinks every five to 10 minutes to avoid heat exhaustion."The good news is today’s forecast is a little better than Thursday’s, when the National Weather Service expected heat indexes between 100 and 115 degrees.Today, weather service forecasters say heat indexes will top out at around 105 degrees.Still, that’s hot.Experts say the best defense against heat exhaustion is to drink plenty of water and to limit physical activity outdoors to early mornings and late evenings.They emphasize avoiding drinks with caffeine or alcohol.For the complete story see the 7/22/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
