Gale Harlan Newton dies at 88
Gale Harlan Newton, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center at the age of 88.Memorial services for Gale Newton were held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Inurnment was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. Gale Harlan Newton, the son of Merrill and Lillian (Robischon) Newton was born on July 4, 1928, in Charles City, Iowa. He grew up in Charles City where he attended school and graduated from the Charles City High School. On September 28, 1946, Gale was united in marriage to Mona Fisher in West Union. After their marriage they lived in Nashua before moving to Charles City. Gale worked for 46 years at the White Oliver Farm Implement in Charles City before retiring. In 1998, he moved to Buffalo Center to be closer to his family. He enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family, especially the grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and going out to eat. Gale was active in the United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Senior Center. He is survived by his sons, Stephen Newton and Merrie Lyn Webb of Buffalo Center; Gregory and Judie Newton of Oelwein; Jeffery Newton of Nashua; grandchildren, Daniel (Julie) Newton of Thompson; Stephanie (William) Newton Keyser of Colorado Springs, CO; Dustin Newton of Oelwein; great-grandchildren, Jordan (Sarah) Newton, Brandy (Travis) Folkerts and Matthew Fraizer; great-great-grandhchildren, Madelynn and Bailey Newton; sisters, Sue (Harry) Obenchain of Hollywood, AL; Nancy (Jack) Lindsay of South Bend, IN; as well as, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mona on May 8, 1992; and sister, Patricia Smith and LaVerne Smith.Arrangements were handled by Winter Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
