Fredericksburg hears that old familiar sound

Lead Summary

Remember when you got so excited to hear that iconic song of the ice cream truck? Well it’s back!Deb Ameling of Oelwein and her son have begun driving a Peppy’s Ice Cream truck in towns north of Highway 20 including Fredericksburg, Hawkeye, Waucoma and Westgate.“I have been doing this for a little over a month now,” said Ameling. She actually works in the schools at Oelwein but needed a summer job and thought this would be a fun experience. The company has about ten other vans that are mostly based in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.To become an ice cream truck driver, Ameling said she had to go through the regular background checks and other normal procedures for working with kids. She said right now her main focus has been Fredericksburg and Sumner, Fayette, West Union and Oelwein.“I have also gotten quite a few calls to do events,” said Ameling who drover her truck to Sumner Days and will be in Manchester this next weekend for their flea market.Ameling also took her truck to a business recently who requested her.“The employer called and asked if I was willing to come,” she said. “I ran a tab for the employees and the owner paid it.”She has also done some birthday parties and is pretty much open to doing anything. For the complete story see the 8/5/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
