Eva Mae (Schweim) Huffman dies at 90
Jesus called Eva Mae (Schweim) Huffman home July 11, 2016. Born to Edward and Cassie (Lentz) Schweim February12, 1926 in Mankato; baptized March 14, 1926 at Immanuel Lutheran. Eva grew in faith andknowledge of her Savior in Mankato at Immanuel Lutheran School and Bethany Lutheran HighSchool, graduating in 1945.Eva became an RN, a 1949 graduate of Koehler School of Nursing in Rochester. There shemet Stanley Merl Huffman of Ionia. They were married June 24, 1950 at ImmanuelLutheran, and made their home on the Huffman farm.In Iowa Eva practiced nursing delivering and caring for babies. She became the School Nurseat Nashua in 1965, holding this position until 1973, when she returned to Mankato serving as anurse at Immanuel-St. Joseph’s Hospital.Eva loved her patients, family, friends, church, rural life, God’s handiwork, but above all herLord Jesus. As an active member of Cross Lutheran in Charles City, she led her own childrenand other children to know Jesus and his word. In Mankato she served at St. Paul Lutheran andvolunteered at Bethany Lutheran College and elsewhere.Eva’s kindness and hospitality touched many. Her humor delighted people even until the end.Her fruits of faith enriched the lives of many. Praise to God, who through faith in Jesus, made hera child of God and called her home to heaven to await the bodily resurrection at Jesus’ return onthe Last Day.A Christian Funeral celebrating God’s grace and work in Eva’s life will be held at TrinityChapel, Bethany Lutheran College, Sunday August 14, 2 p.m. Visitation begins at 1 p.m.;reception following the service. Her ashes will be interred at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Mankato.Eva was preceded in death by her husband Stanley; parents Edward and Cassie; in-laws Lyleand Esther and sister-in-law Thalia of Ionia; many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived byher son Rev. Roger Huffman, his wife Karen, their children: Heather, Kirsten, and Ryan - ofKing of Prussia, PA; her daughter Carol Trapp, her husband Rev. Thomas Trapp of Madison, Wisc.and their sons Paul (Julaine), Peter (Kalinda), Philip and Eva’s four great-grandchildren; hersister-in-law Virginia (Bud) Brahn and nephews Dennis (Carol), Curtis, Dexter (Janice) of Ionia;five married grand nephews and niece; five great-grand nieces and nephews; and eight cousins.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in memory of Eva be given to Bethany LutheranCollege (Mankato, MN), Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel (Madison, WI), or Peace Ev. LutheranChurch (King of Prussia, PA).
