Diamond rebound

Lead Summary

Zach Wemark executed the game plan to perfection Friday night.  “I’m just trying to hit it where it’s pitched and hit it hard,” the New Hampton senior said after scorching two triples in a 4-3 win that gave the Chickasaws a Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader sweep of Oelwein. “I wish I could execute the plan like that every game, but I’ll take it tonight.”   The sweep of the Huskies came a night after the Class 2A fourth-ranked Chickasaws suffered their first loss of the season — 9-3 to Class 4A seventh-ranked Mason City — and improved New Hampton to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the NEIC.    “I liked the way the boys responded,” New Hampton coach Cory McDonald said. “It’s about senior leadership, and we’ve got six of the best senior leaders in the state as far as I’m concerned.”
Details on the game may be found in the June 2 Tribune.
