Cold Chickasaws fall to Osage in 2A district final
Zach Wemark stood outside the locker room Tuesday night, and for a moment, words failed him. “It’s ... just ... I don’t know ...,” the New Hampton senior said as his voice trailed off after the Chickasaws saw their season come to an end with a 51-42 loss to seventh-ranked Osage in a Class 2A district final game. Wemark looked up, valiantly coaxed a smile and found his footing. “The hard part is we know we’re way better than that,” he said. “That wasn’t the same team we’ve been the last month. If it would have been, our season wouldn’t be done.” He had a point. New Hampton played one of its worst games of 2017, yet still had a chance to knock off a one-loss Osage team that will now play Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in a substate game on Saturday. The first half, especially the final 10 minutes, was a nightmare for the Chickasaws, who came into the game averaging 65 points a game yet had just 14 points at the break.
