Church undergoes remodel project

Lead Summary

Pastor Darin Cerwinske and his family knew they would be going on an adventure moving from their Nashua hometown to Georgia but never dreamed they would be lucky enough to come back to Nashua a short four years later.Cerwinske and his wife Deedie, along with their four children moved to Georgia for the seminary and thought they would not be back to Nashua.  After seminary though, the option came up to start a church in their hometown and they jumped on the chance. “Never thought we’d be back but God had another plan,” said Cerwinske. In 2010, the Cerwinske family came back to Nashua and started the Cedar Point Church. In the beginning it was a small group of people living God-directed lives and helping all in the community.  There was not a church building until the Nashua Pharmacy was sold two years ago to the church. They are still a church helping all in the community but for the last two years Pastor Cerwinske and his growing congregation have remodeled the old pharmacy into a great worship place for all ages to come and enjoy. Cerwinske was a former contractor and members of his congregation are currently contractors so they did all the hard work of remodeling themselves except for the cabinets. The congregation now has a place to worship along with a nursery area, The Well and kitchen area. The children have KIDZ Point and Point 180 Youth groups which meet on Wednesday evenings.  Fourth graders on up to high school seniors have a great time in The Well area of the church, learning and having fun.Cedar Point Church also has men and women’s groups, Vacation Bible School and much more to offer for all ages.  They are a relaxed church open to all and many days Pastor Cerwinske will be in jeans, himself.Cerwinske said, “I love Nashua, it’s my hometown and wanted to come back. American churches are dying and even people in small town Iowa matter to God.”The church is almost completely finished with the remodeling project leaving only two bathrooms on the list.  After those are finished they are planning on having an Open House for the community come see what they have done. Future plans involve work in the basement since the church is growing and needing more room. They currently have 110 members and always invite all to join. Anyone who would like to come and worship on Sunday morning is welcome and service begins at 10 a.m. There is fun for the children and adults along with a moving service in a relaxed atmosphere.
