Chickasaws run well at Waverly
There weren't as many runners at this year's Waverly-Shell Rock cross country invite. Originally scheduled for Tuesday of last week, the meet was postponed to Thursday due to excessive heat.Though not all the schools were able to make the new date, it gave the Chickasaw runners a good workout, especially important since their Saturday meet at Decorah was called due to a wet and possibly a little dangerous course."Waverly is always a hectic meet because instead of having four high school races, you have ten — two for each grade level and two middle school races," said coach Jamie Quass. "The meet went well and I was impressed with our performances. Not everyone PR'd from the Newman meet, but I saw some great races and determined faces."It took three runners in each grade to score as a team. New Hampton had enough in three of the high school races as the senior boys led the way with a sixth place finish of nine teams. The sophomore girls were eighth of nine and the ninth girls trailed a field of 12.The Chickasaws had incomplete teams in five classes, falling just one person short in four classes to count as a team. However, all the best finishes counted toward an overall team score, where the boys were 10th of 12 and the girls 11th of 12 schools. Decorah was the top team in both cases.Jake Usher had the top overall time for the boys at 18-minutes flat. For all the New Hampton results, please see the Sept. 13 Tribune.
