Chickasaws playing best basketball of season

New Hampton was in a bad spot – no doubt about it.
It’s amazing what a few games and a matter of days can do to a basketball squad.
The Chickasaws are living proof.
“We’re a completely different team than we were even two weeks ago,” said New Hampton boys basketball coach Ryan Rausch. 
Behind aggressive, heady play, the New Hampton hoops team transformed a season going nowhere into one of promise. The transformation that has lifted the spirits and hopes of Chickasaw players was evident on Tuesday, Jan. 26 in a near miss at home versus Waukon. The Warriors thumped New Hampton by 26 points, 80-54, in Allamakee County just two weeks prior. While the Indians held off a furious rally and challenge from New Hampton for a 66-63 triumph - the table was set for the Chickasaws’ hard work to finally start paying off.
New Hampton (4-11, 1-8) notched its first conference win of the 2020-2021 season three days later on Friday night at Oelwein with a gritty and determined effort that produced a 66-59 victory.
