Chickasaws give Cadets battle

Defensively, New Hampton did exactly what they were supposed to do Wednesday night in the second round of regional action.
In a season where the defense has excelled, the Chickasaws outdid themselves against Crestwood. 
But  it didn’t lead to a win.
“Our defense, that’s not why we lost this game,” said coach Chad Pemble after the 28-20 loss ended the season for the NH girls. “Our shots were just not going in. We weren’t rushing our shots, especially in the second half, we got several good looks. We had a few go in and out.”
The Chickasaw defense featured a 1-3-1 zone defense that collapsed around University of Iowa recruit Sharon Goodman.
“That made it hard for her to get the ball, it was a different zone than we played against them before, something we sort of drew up in the sand,” Pemble said. “We played the best way we thought we could to defend against her and against the team. And it worked.”
Goodman averages 24.5 points per game, scored 23 in each of the first two games against the Chickasaws this year, but finished with nine Wednesday night.
“If you told me we’d hold her to nine points, I’d say we stood a pretty good chance of winning.”
