Chickasaws get first win in a barnburner!

New Hampton got a huge game from running back Carter Ferrie and came up with several big second half plays to rally for a 25-23 victory over Charles City on Friday night.
 
Ferrie ran for 142 yards on 31 carries and scored all four of the Chickasaws’ touchdowns as New Hampton evened its record at 1-1.
 
Down 15-13 at halftime, the Chickasaws defense forced Charles City into a three-and-out to start the third quarter and then marched down the field — capping the drive with a Ferrie five-yard run that gave New Hampton a 19-15 lead with 3:37 remaining in the quarter.
 
The Comets answered with an Alex Staudt one-yard quarterback sneak and a Mitz Conception two-point catch to grab a 23-19 advantage 33 seconds left in the third quarter.
 
New Hampton, though, responded, putting together another solid drive, one that included a clutch fourth-down pass from Mason Lane to Carson Babcock, and when Ferrie scored from four yards out with five minutes left in the game, New Hampton was back on top.
 
And then the Chickasaw defense rose to the occasion, stopping one drive on a leaping interception by Drake Wemark at the New Hampton 6-yard-line. On Charles City’s next possession, it was a Wemark tackle for loss that was key in keeping the Comets from getting a first down.
 
New Hampton travels to Waukon next to face the Class 2A No. 1 ranked Indians, who had to rally to beat Crestwood 26-21 on Friday night.
