Chickasaws get off to fast start at state wrestling tournament
New Hampton/Turkey Valley got off to a fast start at the Class 2A state wrestling tournament as three Chickasaws recorded pins at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Mason Cleveland got the Chickasaws off on the right foot with a second-period pin at 126, Max Babcock recorded a third-period pin at 145 and Evan Rosonke got a second-period pin at 182 to give the Chickasaws 12 team points.
The Chickasaws’ other state participant, 220-pound Carter Reicks, lost both his matches Thursday and was eliminated from the tournament. Reicks, in his first year as a varsity wrestler at NH/TV, finished the season 38-9.
In Class 1A, Nashua-Plainfield junior Jakob Whitinger picked up his major decision in the first round while the Huskies’ Derik Downing lost both his matches.
