Chickasaw pair named to the all-NEIC teams

Lead Summary

Even with a bum knee and hobbled to a degree – Drake Wemark is without question one of the best basketball players in the Northeast Iowa Conference.
The 6-2 Chickasaw junior forward was awarded with second-team distinction as the NEIC rolled out their league awards recently.
It was that kind of season for Wemark, who never got back to 100 percent health after a knee injury forced him to miss the first nine games of the New Hampton boys basketball 2020-2021 season.
“We all know that Drake is not a second-team player when he is healthy ... heck, I didn’t think he was a second teamer even with the injury. He is a first-team player, no doubt. But ... it is what it is. He is very motivated by that,” said New Hampton head coach Ryan Rausch, whose team also had senior Conner Rochford named honorable mention.
It was still an all-league worthy season for Wemark, who also overcame a bit of shooting slump upon his return to the New Hampton lineup, but still managed to average over 15 points a game. Wemark also made the second-team all-NEIC as a sophomore.
Wemark was the fourth-best scorer in the league (15.5 ppg).
