Chickasaw boys split NEIC pair

New Hampton basketball coach Ryan Rausch thinks the growth of his team this season could be seen crystal clear on Friday night in Decorah.
The host Vikings had closed the first quarter with a 14-2 run to take an 18-11 lead.
“You know, earlier in the season, we would have let it get away from us,” Rausch said, “but against Decorah, we just fought through it. I love my team, I love my guys, because of that. They just found a way.”
New Hampton clawed its way back into the game in the second quarter, took a halftime lead into the locker room and maintained it through the entire second half on their way to a 58-53 win that got them, for a day at least, to the .500 mark.
Unfortunately, a late comeback against Waverly-Shell Rock came up short as the Go-Hawks beat New Hampton 67-53 in a game that can only be described as rugged.
“I’m not happy with it, but right now, we have to treat every game as a preparation for the postseason,” said Rausch, whose team is 8-9 overall and has a 3-6 mark in the Northeast Iowa Conference.
