Blazek places third at state XC

Lead Summary

Although it was a frigid and windy day at the state cross country meet on Saturday in Fort Dodge, it didn’t seem to affect Jalyssa Blazek and Jaycie Byrne, as they both ran their best times of the year for Turkey Valley.
And for Blazek, it was a personal record. She broke it by a whopping 36 seconds for a time of 18:54. This was good enough for a third place finish of the 139 girls who competed in Class 1A and only nine seconds behind the individual champion, Peyton Pogge of Tri-Center (18:45). The only other participant to clock in quicker than Blazek was Kee’s Haley Meyer at 18:51.
“I am astonished. I couldn’t be more excited and proud for myself since that was my best race of the season. I’m still in disbelief over how well I did. I knew I had the ability to get top five, but top three is unbelievable,” Blazek said.
