Bakery lands in top three

New Hampton’s Sweet Freedom Gluten Free Bakery has made it into the top three of a unique food competition.The bakery, owned by Chantal and Al Papousek, learned Wednesday it had made the “finals” of the 2016 Midwest Food Innovation Challenge.Sweet Freedom joined a Kathy’s Kitchen of Virginia, Ill., and Soozie’s Doozie’s of Union, Mo., in the finals, and the winner was announced Thursday evening after this edition of the Tribune went to press.The winner of the contest received $50,000 in “seed funding” from Archer Daniels Midland Company, which sponsors the event. The winner also received $50,000 in services from National Foodworks Services and other prizes which are designed to help advance food innovation.Chantal Papousek entered the contest earlier this spring and found out that she had been named as one of the 10 semifinalists in June.For the complete story see the 8/12/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
