Author speaks at Carnegie Cultural Center

Lead Summary

The story of Brian Borland’s family is truly an amazing one. And the individuals who made it out to the Carnegie Cultural Center last Monday were able to learn about it, as he made the trip from his home state of Wisconsin to New Hampton.
Borland is the author of the book “Maynard 8 Miles.”
The book - published in 2014 - is a narrative about Borland’s mom, Carolyn (Nicholson) Borland.
Borland became inspired to write a book about his family after his grandmother passed away. In the midst of collecting the family’s history for the book, Borland discovered that his mom had been one of the best six-on-six high school basketball players in the state of Iowa and that she was one of the pioneers for the game while playing for Maynard.
