Airport Lake gets new playground equipment

Lead Summary

Airport Lake has seen a face lift with the addition of new playground equipment being installed.Chickasaw County Conservation Director Brian Moore said three weeks ago the New Hampton Lions Club was out at Airport Lake to help the conservation board install the equipment.“About 12 members were there for part of the day,” said Moore about the help he received.Much of the playground equipment was set up and the park was looking good when the men left for the afternoon, but then the county received a huge rainfall. As a result, there was standing water in a lot of the holes which made the playground equipment settle badly.“Last week we started tearing apart and repositioning,” said Moore.Conservation board members were busy putting rocks in the holes as well as bricks to help the equipment settle and stand right. The conservation board is also looking into camera systems.“We are looking at wanting to monitor the parks from the nature center,” Moore informed the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors.Supervisor Rick Holthaus hopes the conservation board keeps following up on the cameras.“We need to find the money to get that done,” said Holthaus, knowing it has been a priority lately with the vandalism.Moore and the board are also still looking into adding solar power at the nature center.A pay back would bee seen in about 14 to 16 years, Moore was said.“We received information for a panel and there would be some grants we can apply for to help fund that,” said Moore. For the complete story see the 8/5/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
