Winning the West

The event was billed as the “Best of the West,” and when it was over, there was little arguing about which team was the finest.  New Hampton rolled to three dual wins over ranked opponents — beating Dike-New Hartford 63-18, pulling away from Denver-Tripoli 49-21 and routing Wapsie Valley 59-9 — at Thursday’s quadrangular that was held in the University of Northern Iowa’s historic West Gym.  “Overall, I’ll take it,” New Hampton coach Nick Hemann said after his Class 2A top-ranked Chickasaws improved to 23-2 in dual meets. “That’s three wins over three quality opponents, and at this point of the season, what we want more than anything is good competition.”  For all the New Hampton results, please see the Jan. 17 Tribune.
