A winning autumn

Lead Summary

Let’s be honest, given the choice of being 5-20 or 20-5, we’d all take the latter.  Or given the option of being 3-6 or 6-3, again, we’d take the latter.  And asked for a preference, any runner would prefer to have the season end in Fort Dodge at the state meet rather than see it conclude in Cedar Falls at the state qualifying meet.  The reality is that, record wise, it was a tough fall for Nashua-Plainfield when it came to volleyball, football and cross country.  Yet, if we get hung up on records and the fact that nary a Husky qualified for the state cross country meet, we’re missing the point.  I would argue that in so many ways this was a successful fall for the Huskies on the gridiron, on the court and on the course.  “I think sometimes we get so caught up in places that we forget to look at the big picture,” cross country coach Jennifer Kalainoff said in one of our conversations this fall. “What places don’t tell you all the time is the improvement kids have shown, the dedication they have to each other.”  And really, let’s be honest, that’s what high school sports should be all about.  For the full story, please see the Nov. 3 Reporter.
