A weekend of firsts
Nashua-Plainfield got so many things out of its home tournament Saturday that coach Amber McCall didn’t know where to begin.
The Huskies got their first win of the season. They put together their first winning streak of the season. And they got an opportunity to play a “deciding” set, not once, but three times.
“I feel that it was a huge confidence booster to get the first W,” McCall said, whose team beat Valley Lutheran 21-4, 21-4 to notch that elusive first victory after opening the season with 10 straight losses. “These ladies played hard on Saturday and we haven’t seen that “team” since our team camp the first week of August.”
Nashua-Plainfield then followed that win up with a 21-19, 12-21, 15-10 win over South Winneshiek before dropping three-set matches to Clayton Ridge and South Winneshiek.
Still, McCall said those deciding sets — which are fifth games in regular season matches and third games in regular-season tournaments — provided benefits for her team.
