Veteran’s program honors WWII Veterans
This year’s Veteran’s Day ceremony held in front of Nashua’s students and community members, recognized the WWII veterans in the area.Speaker Tom Kolodziej told the crowd that there were many things he could think of to talk about that day, but said he would work to limit himself.“This year we focus on the remaining WWII veterans in our community,” said Kolodziej. He interviewed each of the WWII veterans, of which five were able to attend the ceremony. One WWII Veteran, Mark Smith, was born and raised in Plainfield. He joined the Marine Corps who sent him to music school to learn to play the bugel in the Drum and Bugle Corps.“But that didn’t last,” said Kolodziej.Smith was sent into battle. He finally left in 1936 when he then began working in the local area. He went to jewelry school, met his wife and the two of them moved to Nashua to open a store, they opened another in Charles City but decided to stay living in Nashua. He is retired now but still enjoys his days. For the complete story see the 11/17/2016 Nashue Reporter.
