Vendor learned to crochet from her grandmother and continues to practice

Learning to crochet all those years ago turned out to be a great investment for Welcome Center Vendor Teresa Staudt’s future. She had no idea it would work out so well for her in her retirement years as a daily activity.“My grandmother taught me how to crochet,” said Staudt, “I was the only one out of the family who learned from her.” After practicing for years she got her tension under control and now makes scrubbies, pocket crosses, prayer rocks, large and small jar helpers, angels, towel rings, Santa kisses, pot holders and more which all can be found at the Gateway to Northeast Iowa Welcome Center.This Marble Rock resident just happens to be the first vendor former Welcome Center Director Fran Schmitt signed to be a vendor.  Staudt knew Schmitt through church and when asked she jumped at the chance to be a vendor and a volunteer.  She no longer volunteers but she still makes sure the center has enough scrubbies in stock since they are her most popular item.“I enjoy making the scrubbies and have made over 2,000 already,” said Staudt. She admitted she gives them for shower gifts since so many people fall in love with them after using them. They are able to be thrown in the washing machine to sanitize them but she reminds people not to throw them in the dryer since the nylon net will melt.For the complete story see the 9/22/2016 Nashua Reporter.
