Turkey Valley loses heartbreaker in overtime
Riceville's No. 8 was in the sights of every Turkey Valley defender Friday night, but the Wildcat's John Miller was elusive. Will Einwalter had another word for him. Don't worry, there's no swearing yet. “He was shifty,” said Einwalter after Miller's 334 yards led Riceville to an overtime victory. “He was good with his feet and they just outworked us.” The 52-44 loss was the first of the Trojan season. “It was a had fought football game between two teams trying for a district championship,” said coach Mark Scott. “The winner has a leg up on the district race, the loser can't afford to stumble.” Einwalter didn't have a good start to the game as, after his first reception, he fumbled and Riceville recovered. But the defense held and the Trojan senior more than made up for the fumble when, on his first carry, he rambled 60 yards to put the Trojans up 6-0. “That fumble sparked something,” admitted Einwalter. “But the boys down the field made some damn good blocks on that touchdown.”
