Trojans wrap up undefeated regular season
It wasn't like Turkey Valley had a soft schedule while going 9-0 during the regular season and taking the District 2 championship. Non-district opponent Central of Elkader only had one loss when the teams met, and the Warriors' schedule included a win over previously top-ranked Don Bosco. AGWSR's only other season loss was to Don Bosco, but when they met with Turkey Valley, the Trojans boys rolled 62-8. There were, however, some mismatches, and Friday at Janesville was one of them as Turkey Valley won 60-18. That brings the season total to 526 points scored by the undefeated TV boys — one of only four teams in the 8-man class to go through the regular season undefeated — to 151 for their collective opponent. The last time coach Mark Scott had a team go undefeated in the regular season was in 2004 and it's only the fifth time in the 50-plus years of Turkey Valley that's happened. For the third straight year, the Trojans will be playing Don Bosco in the playoffs, this time in the first round which takes place this Friday. But, unlike the other years, Turkey Valley won't have to travel. In the latest AP polls, the Trojans are tied for second and the Dons are fifth, even though they lost to eighth-ranked Central. “We look forward to playing them at home,” said Scott. “They have a good team, very similar to our team.” Both teams count on the running game, but when Janesville had some success stopping that TV strength Friday, the Trojans took to the air.
