Trojans roll past Clarksville to clinch district title
Just about everything that could go wrong for Clarksville Friday, did. Of course, third-ranked Turkey Valley had a lot to do with the misfortunes that led to their 48-0 lead…… after a quarter. On the way to a 72-7 Trojan win, a number of players were at the right place at the right time. “Clarksville made some critical errors early in the game, allowing us to score quickly,” said coach Mark Scott. “A bad snap on a punt that gave us the ball on the 1-yard line, a fumble on a kick off return, a bad snap into the end zone for a safety, three interceptions, two which were returned for touchdowns, all in the first half of play.” That's some half. Although the Trojans lead the district in interceptions — they had nine even before adding the four they had on Friday — none of the picks had gone for a touchdown before John Gossling's interception and 39-yard return in the first quarter. “Their receiver kind of bobbled it and I was able to get it off his hands,” said the Trojan senior, who intercepted another pass in the second quarter and returned that one 58 yards to paydirt.
