Trojans heading back to title game

Turkey Valley pulled off another comeback, and the result is the Trojans are returning to the Class 1A state girls basketball tournament title game.Down seven at halftime to Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton, Turkey Valley rallied for a 48-46 overtime win Thursday in the semifinals and earned a rematch with Springville in Friday's championship game.The Trojans used a brilliant third quarter as they outscored the Spartans 15-5 to take a 32-29 lead into the fourth quarter, but Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton rallied to send the game into overtime.Turkey Valley's Shelby Reicks scored early in the extra frame to give the Trojans a 44-42 lead and then put the Trojans up for good when she hit two free throws to make it 46-44 with 2:22 remaining. Kayla Gebel pushed the lead to four when she hit two free throws to push the lead to 48-44 with 33.7 seconds left and the Trojans had earned another shot at winning a state championship.Gebel and Elli Winter led the Trojans with 13 points apiece while Winter finished with a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds. Reicks had 10 points and four assists.The semifinal win came three days after Turkey Valley rallied from a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to be Janesville in an opening round game.Friday's championship game between the Trojans and Springville, which beat Kingsley-Pierson 61-43 in Thursday's other semifinal, begins at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on Iowa Public Television.— For more on the Trojans at the state tournament, refer back to nhtrib.com and see the March 7 Tribune
