Treasurer’s report getting closer to finish line
The City of Nashua Treasurer’s Report is only about $1,000 off now and not the $960,000 which was reported the last time LouAnn Murphy talked to the City Council.Murphy gave each Council member a progress report and explained the report is getting closer to the finish line now.“It’s no one’s fault; it’s what the State of Iowa gave you,” said Murphy. The new balances should be coming soon and she will be back in a month to report the progress at that time. She would also like to talk to the Council about where to go from here after the final balances are in. Murphy believes there are fewer funds than what is reported now. Also on Monday, one concerned resident spoke up about the garbage and recycling totes since “you have been talking about this for about six to eight months so when are we getting the totes?”Sept. 1 was the deadline the City of Nashua issued when collecting information about the different sizes of totes each household needed for their families. The City of Nashua posted on its Facebook page on Sept. 9 there was still time to sign up for the trash and recycling totes. In this post it stated those who do not sign up will be assigned the 35 gallon garbage tote and a 65 recycling tote at a monthly rate of $11.Citizens want to know when this will be done so they can plan for the yellow garbage bags. Ordering of the totes was put on hold.Councilman Ryan Jung brought three bids to the table for the City’s garbage pickup.Jendro Sanitation, which the City is currently using, Waste Management and Bunn Services were asked to submit bids to the city for garbage and recycling pickup. All companies would have the totes, which would last residents six to eight years depending on each household. For the complete story see the 9/22/2016 Nashua Reporter.
