Top-ranked Trojans fall

Turkey Valley still had a seldom-used play up its sleeve, and it kept the Trojans competitive in a state playoff game against Don Bosco for a time Friday.  But eventually, the Dons shredded the Trojan defense for 75 points — more than the last four TV opponents combined scored —  to end the TV season, 75-24.    It was the first loss for Turkey Valley's season.  “It's going to sting right now,” coach Mark Scott said as the players were departing the field. “But I told them 10 years from now what they'll remember is the nine times this year they came out and took it to the other guys.”  The Trojans certainly did that, outscoring their opponents to the tune of 526 to 151 during the regular season. They were the first team since 2004 to go through the regular season undefeated and only the fifth team in school history to accomplish the feat.  But accepting a nice state participation trophy is not what the top-ranked Turkey Valley team had in mind for their season end.  Don Bosco was the first to get on the board with a Brandon Bagby 37-yard run and he scored again from the seven a short time later. Both times the Trojan defense would stop the conversions.  After a Don Bosco punt, Wyatt Blazek would take a handoff on a counter play from his own 15 and race 65 yards to put the Trojans on the board and he'd add the conversion for a 12-8 score.  For the full story, please see the Nov. 1 Tribune.
