Thomas L. Scoles dies at 67
Thomas L. Scoles age 67 of Nashua died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with Rev. Bill Nielsen presiding. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Full military honors will be conducted by the Nashua V.F.W. Friends may greet the family 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Online condolences for Thomas' family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comThomas Lee Scoles was born December 5, 1949, in Charles City, the son of Richard and Frances (Nehls) Scoles. He received his education in Nashua and graduate from the Nashua High School in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Army on June 3, 1969 and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1972. He was united in marriage to Julie Barrett and to this union two children were born; Stacy and Bret who passed away in infancy. Thomas was a union carpenter in Waterloo and worked for several area companies around the state of Iowa. He later began working for Gordon Bonzer straightening barns and repairing buildings. In 1994 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis but continued to work until his health declined to the point he could no longer work. In his free time he loved bird-watching, mushroom hunting and fishing even from his wheelchair. Mostly he loved time spent visiting with family and friends and he always let his family know how much he loved them.Survivors include his wife, Julie of Nashua; one daughter, Stacy (Paul) Larson of Charles City; three granddaughters, Alicia Larson (Tanner Koskie), Hannah Larson and Haley Larson, all of Charles City; three sisters, Debra Tonn of Nashua, Margie Dutka of Fredericksburg, Jackie (Bill) Wadey of Greene; one brother, Richard Scoles of Nashua; many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and son Bret.
