Season comes to an end for the N-P girls

When Nashua-Plainfield’s girls basketball season came to an end last Thursday with a 48-29 loss to North Butler in the Class 1A regional tournament, Huskies coach Josh Smith had two messages for his team.

Playoff victory

Even though Turkey Valley’s win over West Central in the regional first round was over for about 20 minutes, Katlyn Baumler’s face  still showed a flush from the hard workout.

Trojan boys claim another UIC title

Turkey Valley needed certain things to happen to win their third straight Upper Iowa Conference title outright, and when South Winn beat North Fayette Valley Friday night by two points, that went a long way toward the goal.

Chickasaw boys rally on the road

New Hampton was on the wrong end of a 42-33 score with three minutes left in the third quarter of its game with Waukon Friday night.

Nice swan song

Lauren Frerichs didn’t hesitate at all when asked what she liked more — making a good pass or hitting a big shot?

NH/TV claims district title, qualifies four

Mason Cleveland’s record in early January stood at 26-11, which may have been pretty solid for a lot of wrestlers but didn’t come close to the standards the New Hampton/Turkey Valley senior had for himself.

Trojans top MFL, now tied for UIC lead

Turkey Valley coach Chris Sullivan thought Monday’s game at MFL MarMac had a “district” feel to it.

Chickasaw girls fall to Crestwood

Coach Chad Pemble didn’t think his girls were intimidated by Crestwood’s 6-foot-3 junior Sharon Goodman, who has already committed to attend and play basketball at the University of Iowa.

Nightmarish half costs New Hampton boys

It was a tale of two halves — one good, even very good at times; one horrendous — for New Hampton boys basketball Monday night.

Heartbreak

Maybe New Hampton/Turkey Valley co-coach Andy Geerts said it best Wednesday night.

Huskies seek consistency as girls postseason starts

Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball coach was asked in an email about his team’s practice schedule the past couple of weeks because of the winter weather and array of makeup games.
His response: “It. Has. Been. A. Struggle.”

N-P parades to line in Top of Iowa win

He may have liked to have seen a little bit better shooting percentage, but make no mistake about it, Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball coach Sam Brown loved watching his team march to the free-throw line Saturday.

Total team title

The goal for the Nashua-Plainfield wrestling team was simple Saturday: Win a Class 1A sectional team title.
The Huskies accomplished their mission, although it didn’t go quite the way coach Al Frost envisioned.

Nashua-Plainfield falls in Class 1A regional duals

Nashua-Plainfield’s dual meet season came to an end Tuesday night, but the Huskies put up a respectable showing in a 47-25 loss to MFL-Mar-Mac, which came into the Class 1A regional duals as the eight-ranked team in the state.

Turkey Valley gets hard-fought revenge against South Winn

When South Winn hit a 3-point shot with 28 seconds left in Friday’s game against the Trojans, the Warriors cut a Turkey Valley lead — which had been as much as eight points earlier in the quarter — to three points.

Triple OT thriller

After Turkey Valley’s 66-52 win over South Winn Friday, Trojan junior Breanna Busta thought her team passed the test of having back-to-back games — they won 49-42 over Central Thursday — with flying colors. She still had some energy left.
