Simon Jacob Paul dies at 12 weeks

Simon Jacob Paul, son of Ben and Ashley Paul, was born on Jan. 5, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Born prematurely at 26 weeks and 6 days, he was transferred to the NICU at St. Louis Children’s Hospital under the care of extraordinary doctors, nurses, and staff. Simon was baptized into the Catholic Church on Jan. 7, 2017.Simon passed away at St. Louis Children’s Hospital on March 31, 2017 at 12 weeks old. A private mass was celebrated on April 7 at Sacred Heart Church followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer Iowa.Although Simon’s time on earth was short, many lessons were learned by anyone who was graced with his presence or heard his story. He was a testament to persevering through suffering, recognizing each day as a gift, and loving unconditionally. Simon loved being held by his parents.Simon is survived by his parents, Ben and Ashley Paul, his grandparents, Lynn and Mike Kuethe of Fredericksburg and Helen and Steve Loerts of Spencer, as well as many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
