Search continues for Plainfield woman
The search continues for Cloris Mehmen a 76-year old woman who was reported missing on Tuesday evening. Over 100 volunteers came to help with the search Thursday morning at the Plainfield Fire Department.Tuesday evening at 5:11 p.m. Mehmen was reported missing and the search began until the storm came in. “Initially a tracking dog was on the scene on Tuesday night and then the rain came in and washed away the scent,” said Bremer County Sheriff Dan Pickett. With the help of the tracking dog authorities found out Mehmen was heading south from her home.There were sightings at JoAnn Fabrics in Waterloo and Arby’s in Cedar Falls on Wednesday with no luck. There were two more reports stating they thought they saw her around Highway 63 and C33 with the same results. Volunteers searched fields and ditches while the authorities search residences around the area.Thursday morning volunteers, donations of food and water and area agencies resumed the search for Mehmen. The American Red Cross with many area residences and businesses are donating food and water for the many volunteers.Volunteers spent their day searching fields around the home and area bridges for any clue or hint Mehmen went or may have been and mapping the areas they have searched along the way. Thursday afternoon Black Hawk County departments were on the pond near Plainfield.“It is concerning we are going on 48 hours but it is awesome the local departments are working together,” said Bremer County Sheriff Pickett. Mehmen has been missing since Tuesday night with hot humid days and storms both nights but the community support is great.Anyone who would like to volunteer in the search must be at least 18 years old, wearing closed shoes, long pants and sleeves and asked to meet at the Plainfield Fire Department for their assignments.Mehmen was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue man’s shirt in Plainfield. Anyone with information is asked to call Bremer County Dispatch at 319-352-5400 extension 3.“Sometimes it doesn’t click until later after you have had time to think about it,” said Bremer County Sheriff Pickett. The smallest clue could help the authorities locate Mehmen and bring her home.
