Search continues for missing Plainfield woman
Five days into the search for a missing Plainfield woman, authorities are asking residents in surrounding counties to be on the lookout for Cloris Mehmen. The 76-year-old Mehmen was reported missing last Tuesday just after 5 p.m., and despite several days in which hundreds of volunteers scoured the area near her home, she has yet to be found.Mehmen suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia, and has “taken off” before but always been found in a relatively short amount of time. The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Sunday morning asking for the public’s help.“The request for the public to search their property extends beyond the Plainfield area to counties surrounding Bremer County,” the release said. “Please remain vigilant and report any sightings or information immediately.”The public is being asked to check in and around buildings, vehicles, and land, particularly areas with roads or paths leading off primary roads.Motorists are also being asked to watch for her during travels. “Based on reports received, she may have moved from the Plainfield area,” the Sheriff’s Office said.Mehmen is 5 feet tall, 130 pounds, and was last seen wearing faded blue-gray pants and a men’s short-sleeved shirt. She may or may not be wearing glasses. Her clothing and the presence of eyewear may have changed since she was last seen. For the complete story see the 7/12/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
