Richard D. Bahr dies at 64
Richard D. Bahr, 64, of Cresco, Iowa died on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 in LeRoy, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Friday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, family also invites everyone to join them at the Cresco Country Club immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will take place at a later date.Richard was born Nov. 1, 1952 in Waverly to Newton and Alma (Hagenow) Bahr. He graduated from Waverly Shell Rock High School in 1971, began college at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames in 1976, majoring in turf management. He married Nancy Harrington Leichtman on Feb 10, 1990 and joined her family of Dan, Jennifer and David.His life-long love of golf began early as an elementary student, collecting lost golf balls at the Waverly Course and reselling them. His employment started at the Jefferson, IA Golf Course and then at the Jackson Hole, Wyoming Golf Course. He worked at the New Hampton Golf and Country Club until the late 1980's. He and Nancy owned and operated Bahr's Clean Carpet in New Hampton. He found his home at the Cresco Country Club, beginning in 1990 where he was employed at the time of his death. He received the Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association award for 1999. He had a well know passion for LawnBoy mowers.Richard loved life and lived his to the fullest! He loved hunting, fishing, skiing and anything outdoors. He spent from the beginning of October to early spring outside if possible, enjoying nature. He told others he already lived half of his life retired! He enjoyed his family and friends and spending time together. A day spent with any of his many friends hunting or fishing and sharing a flight of craft beers was a day well lived! One of his greatest accomplishments was successfully summiting Grand Teton, the highest peak in the Tetons.Richard is survived by his wife Nancy, stepchildren (and spouses) Dan Leichtman of New Hampton, Jennifer (Adam) Schillie of Waverly, and David (Jean) Leichtman of New Hampton. His siblings are Gene (Carol) Bahr of Waverly, Pat (Lowell) Andreeseen of Reedsburg, WIisc. Barb (Lee) Schwerdtfeger of Centerville, and Pam Bahr (Jim England) of Maquoketa. He has six grandchildren,Nikole, Isabel, Sohie, Ava, Bryer and Dax,, his mother-in-law, Bernice Harrington of Waverly, and sisters-in-law, Donna (Dave) Geerts of New Hampton, and Lynette (Roger) Vohsman of Nashua.. Also special to Richard were his nephews and nieces.He was preceeded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Francis Harrington, one brother-in-law, Ted Leichtman, a grandson, Hayden, and his beloved dog, Jessie.The family requests that memorials be directed to the Cresco Golf and Country Club. Following the visitation, please join the family at the Cresco Country Club for an " Irish wake" – a celebration of his life!
