Regional Transit tells supervisors it’s here to ‘compliment’
The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors talked transportation on Monday morning.Ed Holm from Regional Transit Services met with the board to discuss what the company is doing in Chickasaw County and what services they can offer at the present.“We are very excited about what has happened over the last couple of months,” said Holm. The Regional Transit Services work within the Medicaid field, getting reimbursed for some rides they can give. The company is excited because ride numbers are up this year for them.“We have provided over 860 more rides than last year,” said Holm.He said a big percentage has been in the Chickasaw County area including Nashua, Fredericksburg, Ionia, Lawler and New Hampton. The group currently has buses in the area that are able to give residents rides from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day throughout the county.“We are not here to put the current bus service out of business,” said Holm. “We are here to compliment their service.”Holm said the chassis bus service is good for the community, and his group also is doesn’t want to hurt the Cozy business either.“We are going to find our own niche of clients,” said Holm. The group is currently advertising for drivers in Chickasaw County and plan to support the local community. The big difference between the chassis and the new service will be that the chassis only goes out of town about three miles, to the Heritage, while this new company will go between towns and out of the county as well. The two groups will have different target audiences.“We will basically have different populations of clientele,” said Holm. “We will provide rides when they are sent to us. We are not going to compete with them in town.”
