Ranked teams look to stay unbeaten
Say this for the New Hampton and Turkey Valley football teams: They’ve put up some pretty impressive numbers through the first third of the season.But the most impressive so far is the 3-0 records both the Chickasaws and Trojans hold.Both teams hit the road tonight [Friday] for district games as second-ranked New Hampton travels to Hampton-Dumont while sixth-ranked Turkey Valley heads to Riceville.New Hampton has outscored its opponents 81-32 in its three wins and will take on a Bulldog team that is off to a 0-3 start and has given up an average of 48.7 points,New Hampton’s defense has already forced 11 turnovers this season — fifth in the state in Class 2A — and ranks third in sacks with 11.Meanwhile, Turkey Valley has been an absolute offensive juggernaut as the Trojans lead all eight-man teams in scoring at 62 points a game.The Trojans will take on a Riceville team that is 2-1 after suffering its first defeat of the season in a 35-14 loss to fourth-ranked AGWSR.New Hampton’s varsity game will kick off at around 7:30 p.m. and follows the 4:45 p.m. fresh-soph game while the Trojan’s game with Riceville is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
