Potential high for area crops

Knock on wood, keep that four-leaf clover and  keep that lucky horseshoe around because it’s a case of “so far, so good” for area farmers.“Right now, Northeast Iowa has a real good potential for some pretty substantial yields,” ISU Extension Agronomist Terry Basol said. “For late July, we are sitting really good.”Basol said both corn and soybean fields in Chickasaw County are moving along quite well, saying the corn he’s seen are pollinating and silking right on time and that beans are right on schedule.Above-normal precipitation in June and July has left a “full profile” when it comes to soil and subsoil moisture levels.— For more on this story, see the July 26 Tribune
