Plainfield Days ready to celebrate 150 years
This year's Plainfield Days has a little extra pizazz; after all, the little town is celebrating a milestone birthday. The annual town celebration is bigger and better than ever this year as the city is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding.Yet, in some ways, planning for the big event didn't change all that much, sesquicentennial or not.“It takes a lot of timing and planning,” said Lisa Downing, who serves as the secretary of the Plainfield Days Committee. “Bands had to be booked last year, and it takes a coordinated effort on everyone's part to get everything done.”That's why the committee began meeting almost as soon as Plainfield Days 2015 came to a conclusion. One big issue facing the committee is paying for the celebration that kicks off tonight [Thursday] and runs through Sunday.Downing said three major fundraisers — two meals and an adult prom — are held to help cover costs of the event, and she added that “tent sales really help with the cost of everything.”In the past, Plainfield Days was a three-day celebration, but with the city celebrating a milestone birthday, organizers added a Family Potluck event on Thursday night for the 2016 festival.Burgers and hot dogs will be provided by the committee, and families are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share for the potluck that runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m.Following the potluck, residents will share their favorite Plainfield memories, the queen candidates will be announced and Little Mr. Plainfield and Little Miss Plainfield will be crowned. For the complete story see the 7/7/2016 Nashua Reporter.
