Patty Jane LaRue, 75
Patty Jane LaRue age 75 of Ionia, IA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at her home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Republic Community Church, rural Ionia, IA, with Rev. John Tunnicliff presiding. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Patty Jane LaRue was born October 13, 1942, in Bristow, IA, the daughter of Robert and LaVonne (Behrends) Bohner. At an early age the Bohner family moved to Charles City where Patty received her education. While visiting friends in Dumont, IA, she met her future husband who was at home on leave serving with the US Army. Patty and Donald LaRue were united in marriage on January 16, 1959 in Dows, IA. To this union two sons were born. The couple moved to Nashua in 1964 and in 1966 to their current home where she passed away.
Patty had worked at the former Roger’s Famous Foods in New Hampton and for 22 years at the former New Hampton Care Center. Patty loved spending time in her huge garden caring for her flowers and vegetables. She spent days canning in the fall to provide for her family. She enjoyed her girls-day-out going to the casino with her sister, Sharon and also attending figure-eight races watching her great nephews, Lane and Trysten tear up the track. Patty also enjoyed collecting glassware, especially Fenton Lamps. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Don; two sons, Joel (Michelle) LaRue of Charles City, Troy (Lisa) LaRue of Ionia; two grandchildren, Morgan LaRue, Hannah LaRue; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Beals, Christine (Gregory) Jennings, Angela (Nicholas) Otis; eight step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon (LeRoy) Rover of Charles City, Judy Taylor of Clarksville, Marilyn (Dave) Thoe of Golden, CO; two brothers, Don (Marlis) Bohner, Larry (Peggy) Bohner, all of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
