Nicole Jeanette Owings dies at 36
Nicole Jeanette (Carolan) Owings of Swisher, died Friday, July 7th at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a brief illness. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Nicole’s life will be from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Avenue in Coralville. A vigil service will begin the visitation at 4 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 13 at St. Thomas More with Fr. Chuck Adam officiating.Nicole was born in Cresco, Iowa to June (Carolan) Laures and Rodney Carolan on May 30, 1981. After growing up in the Cresco area, she moved to Tripoli, IA after elementary school. She went to Tripoli junior and high school where she was active in many activities, including volleyball, track and drama. After graduating in 1999, she moved to Iowa City to study at the University of Iowa. She graduated in 2004 with a degree in History and a minor in Business.While at the University of Iowa, she met Nicholas Owings, from Iowa City. The two were engaged in 2003 and were married at St. Mary's in Iowa City on September 24, 2005. The couple moved to North Liberty in 2007 and welcomed their son, Kieran James in 2009 and Olivia Ann in 2011. The family moved to Swisher in 2015.Nicole worked at a variety of organizations during her time in the Iowa City area. She originally worked at the UIHC in multiple roles throughout college and after. She left the UIHC and joined Medirevv in 2007 and was among one of the organizations first groups of employees. After staying at home for a few months after the birth of her daughter in 2012, she joined Sedgwick when the company opened up a new office in the Coralville area in late 2012. She served in multiple roles but excelled in the field of Project Management. Nicole was uniquely adept at managing projects of all sizes and types, both personally and professionally. On June 16, 2017, she earned her Project Management Professional certificate (PMP).Nicole leaves behind an extensive and loving family. Her husband, Nicholas Owings and kids, Kieran, 7 and Olivia, 5. Her twin brother, Adam Carolan of Oskaloosa; younger brothers Sean Carolan of Muscatine, IA and Eric Laures of Atlanta, GA. Her mother and stepfather, June and Rick Laures of New Hampton, IA; father and stepmother Rodney and Nancy Carolan of Ridgeway, IA. All four grandparents, 13 aunts and uncles, 14 first cousins, six step-siblings, two nieces and nephews, an extensive extended family and a small but very close group of friends.
