N-P has banner, yet disappointing, day at Top of Iowa
How far has the Nashua-Plainfield cross country program come this year? Well, consider this: The Huskies’ girls took third at the Top of the Iowa Conference meet and second among East Division teams, the boys had the divisional individual champion in Brock Dietz and six Huskies ran their way onto the all-conference team and Nashua-Plainfield left Mason City disappointed last week. “That does tell you something, doesn’t it? We had high expectations coming into this meet, and they wanted more than they got,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Jenn Kalainoff said. “They were frustrated, but can you imagine if we had done this a couple of years ago or last year? We would have celebrated all the way home.” Kalainoff paused for a moment and smiled. “That’s what makes these kids special,” she said. “They’re super competitive. Maybe we didn’t get what we wanted, but we had a great, great meet.” That is true. Dietz ran his way to a fourth-place overall finish.
