N-P goes distance for first court win
It’s probably a good thing Amber Carter is only 20 years old; otherwise, she might have had to worry about adding a few gray hairs last Thursday. That was the night her Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team gave the state’s youngest coach her first career victory, but the Huskies did so with plenty of drama — winning the first two sets and dropping the next two before finally winning the five-set thriller.“They gave me a few nervous moments,” Carter said after the 25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 15-10 win over Rockford, “but some of that is just experience. We know we have to do a better job of closing out matches. But we’ll take the win.”The Huskies had opened the season two nights earlier with a three-set loss to New Hampton, but a different team showed up on Thursday.“I think we did have a lot of nerves that first match,” Carter said, “and one thing I told them is we really needed to relax. I think we needed to remind them that this is a fun sport.”More on the story may be found in the Sept. 1 Reporter.
