Merlwin F. Lindner age 96 of Nashua, IA died Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, IA.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Rev. Charis Combs-Lay presiding.
Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua with Kevin Hennick, Mick Hennick, Jamie Hennick, Chad Steggall, Ed Corwin, Joey Boyer, and Chris Benning serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are David Lindner, David Brumley, Nick Hurd, Westin Hoffman, and Troy Anderson.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2020, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Merlwin's family for a designation of their choice at a later date. Merlwin was born April 7, 1923, in Waverly, Iowa the son of Elmer and Erna Lindner. He married Violet Waterman on November 22, 1942, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Nashua. Merlwin served in the United States Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was stationed in Miami, Florida, and Burma, India.
Merlwin was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, farmed in several communities and after retiring from farming worked at White Farm Equipment in Charles City for 22 years. After retiring from White Farm he worked for the Charles City Park and Rec mowing and doing maintenance work until the age of 88. Merlwin was a member of the VFW and he and his wife enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; four sons, Edwin Lindner of Waverly, Dennis (Jane) Lindner of Waverly, Mike Lindner of Nashua and Randy Lindner of Arlington, VA; daughter Lori Redick of Thornton, IA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Jeanne) Lindner of Redding, CA; sister, Arlene (Jerry) Hoover of Pueblo West, CO.
Merlwin was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lavon Brickman, Bernice Hartzel and Ela Mae Depenbusch; daughter, Janice Travis and a daughter in infancy; two grandsons, Ryan Lindner and Charles Lindner; three sons-in-law, Stanley Quillin, Harvey Travis, and Bob Redick; daughter-in-law Diane Lindner.
